When to Visit Tanzania
The Serengeti migration follows a different cycle to Kenya — here's what to expect each month.
Over 500,000 wildebeest calves born in the southern Serengeti. Incredible predator action. Ngorongoro Crater at its most dramatic. Dry, warm weather.
Low season — dramatically reduced prices. Lush green landscapes. Excellent birdwatching. Some roads challenging. Good for budget-conscious travellers.
Herds moving north through the central Serengeti. The long grassy columns are mesmerising. Weather cools. First river crossing attempts begin.
PEAK SEASON — crossings happening at Grumeti and Mara Rivers. Book well in advance. Best combination with Kenya Masai Mara at this time.
Short rains return. Herds begin moving south. Green season photography is spectacular. Good time for discounts with excellent game.
Herds arriving back in southern Serengeti for calving. Festive season atmosphere in lodges. Great weather — warm and mostly dry.
